Thoughts on a New Year...

"Thoughts on a New Year..."

By: Just a Bunch of Thoughts
________________________

The new year, still infant,
Will you feed your baby?
Will you paint a smile?
Will you wash your face and hope for a little while?

You should hug yourself,
You should love...
You should paint and draw with big wide eyes.

Never waste another minute,
Never waste another smile,
Never look back in tears for they are not worthwhile.

Smile...
Hug your baby and dance for a while.
Feed it with love and peacefulness,
Feed it with knowledge and wise.
For your baby shall grow strong and smart,
And would be ready to fly.
You shall say goodbye,
But you won't cry,
For you shall expect another baby.
And you shall feed it and raise till last.
That's what you need to do,
If you want to have a meaning to your life

Literature World Celebrates Charles Dickens 200th Birthday: My Personal Thoughts

Today marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of one of the most celebrated writers in the world, Charles Dickens. As an English Language and Literature student, I have the privilege to indulge in learning more about such authors whose works have surpassed generation upon generation only to become an essential part of any English literature student or fan's journey of learning and enlightenment.

Whenever I read such wonderful creations by authors such as Dickens, I cannot help but feel the "awes" and "wows!" escaping my thoughts. I guess, anyone who enjoys writing knows what I'm talking about. I often wonder if those authors knew the amount of impact their creations would have on the literary world while they were creating them; would they have produced them differently? What if the Brontë sisters knew how truly passionate readers can get over their beloved novels (I just adore Wuthering Heights), or if Dicken's Oliver Twist would be played in thousands of theaters around the world, or if Shakespeare knew he'd be the iconic symbol of the English literature?

I can only imagine!

I wonder if any of today's writers would be as symbolic as Shakespeare in the far future. I wonder if Arab writers would leave an infinite impact. I wonder if Kuwaitis would leave such a historic trail.

I wonder if I will ever leave this world with a timeless classic that would be taught to generations to come.

I wonder...

*****

So, it fascinates me when I see other countries proudly and continuously acknowledging and celebrating their writers, even if centuries go by since the day they were born! (Check out Dickens2012.org and be inspired!)

And as usual, Google celebrates with a special Dickens doodle! (Read more about this on Los Angeles Times)

Will Kuwait celebrate me 200 years from now? ;D

We will never know...

(but if there's anyone from the future, they can answer me! ;P)

So, what's your favorite Charles Dickens novel?

Share your thoughts! :)

I Finally Met the KHALEEJesque Team!

Last night I posted about KHALEEJesque's first print issue launch. Here are my thoughts about the experience! :)

I'm blessed to have my hands on the first print issue of KHALEEJesque! I was really excited to finally meet the wonderful people behind this lovely e-zine! I'm always on the look out for such interesting and enthusiastic magazines to read (and also hopefully be part of the their wonderful teams). So, when I learned that KHALEEJesque, one of top favorite e-zines were launching their first print issue, I was thrilled, and made sure I never miss it.

When I arrived at the launch installation located at the atrium at 360° mall), I took my time to carefully indulge in what I'm looking at! There were several gorgeous ladies which I gathered had to be part of the KHALEEJesque team (and they were!). I made sure I let one of them kindly help me with my meet-the-team discovery and give me my goody bag, which looked so beautiful! I was then delighted to meet Fouz Al-Sabah, creative director and co-founder of KHALEEJesque, whom I enjoyed chitchatting with and who was more than welcome to answer all my questions.

Ghadeer Al-Otaibi and Fouz Al-Sabah

There is a fun photo-booth for readers to take memorable photos with their beloved KHALEEJesque copies! I highly enjoyed the idea! I've always wished we'd have similar photo-booths in Kuwait! The company is called "BonkerBox" and they specialize in transforming an ordinary photo shoot to a crazy out of this world! I so would love to rent the box for our parties! You can too! Check their FB page for more details.

The general feel was filled with proud accomplishment! The team showed such class and prestige the magazine shows, so I wasn't really mistaken, I WAS meeting the real team! ;P

People gathering around! :)

*****

Alright! On to the goody bag!

I really loved the colors and design of the bag. The black, white and red are always a great combination! Wished if there was a green too and we would've have the colors of the Khaleeji spirit, but I know that these are the colors of the magazine's logo ;)

Besides the copy of KHALEEJesque, here's what I found inside:

A beautiful 2012 planner, some chocolates, and a cookie. I really fell in love with the planner; it caught my attention instantly. It has some beautiful quotes spread around the months and even a poem in the first few pages! How cool is that? :D

Here's the surprise cookie I got. From the feel of the yellow bag, I felt like there was a cookie inside. I was half correct about my guesses and assumptions. There was a cookie alright, but I was kinda disappointed when I saw the orange-colored sugar coated cookie; I was expecting a chocolate chip cookie ;P I wonder if all the bags have this orange cookie. Don't think so, I'm sure there might be a mixture and it's my luck to have this orange one...

Anyways! I can't wait to fully read the whole issue! Last night I flipped through most of it with a continuos smile on my face! I'm really proud of the whole KHALEEJesque team for this wonderful establishment! The first issue is specialized in everything culture-related; really is worth getting as it's timeless and will be a lovely addition to anyone's shelf ;)

*****

So, hurry up, and get your free copies, people! You still can pass by today at 360° mall; the team will be happy to see you!

And happy KHALEESesquing! ;P

Kuwaiti Flash Mob! (Continuously UPDATED)

So, how are you doing post-election day? ;)

Shocked? Surprised? Frustrated? Numb? Pessimistic?

Well, I'm still keeping it positive! :D

And I know I'm not the only one; Zain and Cinemagic are keeping it positive too!

AMAZING!

If your spirits weren't lifted; then you might not have any!

I never thought I'd watch a flash mob video that actually happened in Kuwait! We so need more of these!!
I got tears in my eyes! The patriotic songs used are my top faves! Especially "Ana Kuwaiti"! Oh my God, I used to sing this one repeatedly during the times of the liberation! :'D

3ad I was planning to go the Avenues today but I couldn't! Wish I made it, maybe I would've seen this!!! Flash mobs aren't supposed to be announced, so nobody would notify me! Hopefully one day I'll witness something like this!

Shout out to all those souls who keep spreading positivity around! You guys rock! Kuwait has faith in those who have faith in it!

NEVER lose hope!

Updates:

I shall be adding more videos as I discover them ;)

Reactions were hailing all over the place since the videos went viral! A simple search with the words "flash mob Kuwait" over Twitter would get you hundreds of tweets praising this new national celebration! Bloggosphere could not miss this too; here some links:

Check out The Avenues twitter page for a lovely set of pictures of the flash!

*Special Thanks to Bloggylife for sharing the first video!

See You Soon, Ramadan, See you soon, Teddy! Teddy.B Posts His Last 365th Post

As Muslims around the world say goodbye to the the greatest month of the year, the month of peace & mercy, Ramadan, may we all live to welcome it each year, Ameen; we are saying to goodbye to another beautiful thing too. A little stuffed bear that has entered our lives a year ago, & have entertained us every day since, as we accompanied him on his daily amusing travels.

In case you were hibernating all throughout the year or were living under a rock, & don't know who that stuffed bear I'm talking about is, well, his name is Teddy.B, has his own blog called "Year of Teddy" that had/has special mission & cause behind it.

As described in his blog;

Teddy is an alter ego. He willingly volunteered to become a social experiment to help someone settle back into their society. He was made in China, arrived here through a cargo delivery & was found in a toy shop in Kuwait. He doesn't recall any of his relatives & he's looking for love, friendship, & a steady life style. He roams around trying to experience the Kuwaiti life, dragging his owner with him. (Year of Teddy.com)

   Check out Teddy.B!

A few days ago, fans & Teddy.B followers bid farewell to the fluffy little bear as they read his last post that marked the 365th day of Teddy's year & & the countdown Teddy watch was forever stopped.

Yet, another countdown has started, as in  just a few weeks or so, Teddy will accomplish his last deed as he will be sold to charity as a beautiful ending to his social experiment/cause.

I wish I could go into further details, but I shall be brief now as I'm short on time; as you know, Eid is just a few hours away & I still got lots of stuff to do before I get some much needed sleep. But stay tuned for a more in depth "special" post about this little fluffy friend very soon (in sha' Allah).

In the mean time, check out "Year of Teddy" to learn more about him & his special social experiment & beautiful charitable cause through going through his lovely & amusing daily photographic journal.

See You Soon, Ted!

*****

It's the last day of Ramadan, may we get to observe it every year, wishing all Muslims around the world accepted fasting & praying, ameen, & Happy Eid!

تقبل الله طاعتكم و كل عام و أنتم بخير

"Alarm" - How LAZY are You??!

How lazy can one be? If You think you're lazy, think twice, you might not be as lazy as you think you are! Or, you might be just so, or even more!!

"Alarm" is the second short animated movie, by Moo-hyun Jang, a director of independent Animation team MESAI. It's a REALLY an AWESOME movie! Will get you cracking up, aaahhh-ing, & feeling frustrated all at once! You will feel the agony of waking up in the morning by the most hated device ever (in my opinion): the Alarm.

I HATE ALARMS!! I rarely use them anymore, (extreme measures only!), & watching this guy really brought back all the agonizing noise alarms make!

(Spoiler Alert!)
Hahaha! My absolute hilarious part is when he quickly shuts all three alarms & jumps back to bed, (that killed me!! XD!). I also loved the the milk scene! Omg! XD!

(youtube link).

Bayt Lothan's 8th Annual Gallery

On Sat May 10, 2008 I went to visit Bayt Lothan's annual gallery. It was my first visit to the club, so you can tell I was pretty excited!

After a few times of circling & re-circling the roads I found the place. As I entered the place I noticed that it was hot? Ooh, What?! The place is open?!! Arrgh! I kinda forgot that it's an old Arabic (or Kuwaiti) house. There's a implanted ceiling but it did not cover the whole lobby/Haush area (hot air, dust, rain, all can get inside). That figures why they call it Bayt Lothan! But seriously! they're should be air conditioning in the "Haush" (I saw a fan, but that is not suitable air-conditioning by my standards.)! After quite a few minutes it gets pretty uncomfortable. Not to mention all the bugs!

LOL, its just my luck! it was hot that day! But come on! I came in the evening time! What would happen if it was in noon?! Oh, I don't wanna even think about it.

But thank God, there is air-conditioning in the classrooms!

Anyways, enough of the rant & let's get to real good thing! The gallery was amazing! There were hundreds of beautiful & fabulous photographs! I kept browsing, taking notes, & getting inspired! It makes me really happy & proud to see all these young & old, immature & professional Kuwaiti photographers!

I went alone. And as I entered the place, there were a bunch of boys & girls sitting in the lobby. I preferred to look first without asking about anything, (I always like to discover first, then ask) so I went directly to the centre of the Haush where there was several stands with pictures on them. I was captivated by a lot of spectacular pictures (I'll try to ask their owners to post some of them here). They made me stop for a moment to grasp the beauty, the sadness, the will, the challenge & so many other messages they conveyed. And I was gobsmacked by some pictures! I really don't know what some photographers think! (or How!)

The gallery started on May 5, 2008, & ends on the 15. Opening times are from 10:00 - 1:00 & from 5:00 - 9:00.

for more information you can call: 5755866
or visit: http://www.blphotoclub.org/

Hurry Up! You will be taken to a trip through Art & beauty.

I'm definitely wanna go again.
